Electricity supply in Java Bali has increased with the operation of the Java 7 Unit 1 Steam Power Plant (PLTU) since the end of 2019. The coal-based PLTU located in Serang, Banten Province is the largest PLTU in Indonesia with a total capacity of 2×1,000 Megawatts (MW).
This PLTU is the first large power plant in Indonesia to use Ultra Super Critical (USC) boilers which can increase the efficiency of the plant up to 15 percent higher than non-USC. USC technology also makes the resulting emissions lower so that it is more environmentally friendly.
In addition to boiler technology, PLTU Jawa 7 in its operation also uses SWFGD (Sea Water Fuel Gas Desulfurization) so that it is very environmentally friendly because the distribution of coal from the barge uses a coal handling plant along 4 kilometers so that no coal is scattered to the coal yard.
PLTU Jawa 7 will be the largest and first coal-fired power plant in Indonesia to use Ultra Super Critical (USC) boiler technology, with Low Rank coal fuel that has a calorific value of 4000 to 4600 kCal/kg, consuming around 7 (seven) million tons per year when 2 units are operational.
PT Nusa Bahari Perkasa also supports the coal supply distribution of PLTU Jawa 7 by renting a 52,000 DWT Supramax ship to operate.
